Fi-Core followers are stunned by image of Jon Voight on tortilla!

Character Actor and clown, Yoonyun Buster, who has an Internet Website encouraging actors to go financial core, has stunned the fi-core world with the announcement that he has discovered the likeness of their new savior, Jon Voight, on a tortilla.

Mr. Buster’s astonishing announcement has caused a pilgrimage of the Fi-core Faithless to the doorstep of his Simi Valley home. Police have reported that for the most part those waiting in line to view the tortilla are a passive group, but as a precaution ambulances are standing by because of their tendency of backstabbing.

In addition to the Voight tortilla, Yoonyun also claims to have a Chip featuring the likeness of Erik Estrada and a potato that resembles Wilfred Brimley. When asked if he had any eatables resembling Chris Mitchum, Mr. Buster, who spends most of his spare time watching movies and TV, said he couldn’t be sure since he hadn’t seen him in years.

Buster who is always out to make an extra buck says his items will go up for sale on Ebay! Bidding will begin at 30 pieces of silver.

SAG, producers to resume talks Wednesday

Less than a week after negotiations broke down, SAG/AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers said Friday that they will return to the bargaining table Wednesday to try to finish the new three-year contract.

An indefinite recess was declared Jan. 9, throwing the production community into high gear over the possibility that actors could strike on or before the June 30 deadline for the current agreement. Sources say the studios already were taking the first steps toward accelerating production so features would be completed before late June.

The two sides have perhaps until the end of the month to finish the deal before producers will begin to pull the plug on future projects because they can’t be guaranteed that union actors will be available.

Owing to an ongoing news blackout, the joint negotiating team of SAG/AFTRA and the AMPTP said they will resume the talks but did not elaborate.

The negotiators might be close to a deal, with only one or two final issues remaining, according to knowledgeable sources. One of those sticking points is believed to be DVD residuals, with the unions seeking a greater share of home video rental and sale revenue. It was not clear what the other potential issue was.

The AMPTP has refused to negotiate those terms with the WGA and DGA, leading to speculation that they will take a similar stance with the actors’ unions.

The studio negotiators have said that DVD residuals are so crucial to their finances that they are willing to risk a strike.

Negotiations involving SAG’s major TV/Theatrical contract and AFTRA’s Exhibit A opened Dec. 6 and covered about 10 days before breaking for the holidays. Five more days of bargaining ended Jan. 9 with an announcement that officials were not ready to make a deal on behalf of SAG’s 122,000 members and AFTRA’s 80,000 members.

The prospect of a production disruption is reminiscent of what AMPTP faced a year ago, when it started negotiating this contract with SAG/AFTRA but essentially postponed the talks for a year to turn its attention to major negotiations with the writers, directors and other Hollywood unions.

A similar situation played out in 2001, when the likelihood of a strike by SAG and/or the WGA drove studios to stockpile production. Those strike fears never materialized but led to months of production inactivity, or what was known as a “de facto strike.”

The Ol Watchdog predicts that those SAG/AFTRA negotiators including a minority of SAG negotiators in conjunction with a majority of AFTRA negotiators will accept a deal that will settle for little more than EXTRA money, while eschewing the SAG MAJORITY which has been battling to insure that members get their fair share of the Booming MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR DVD MARKET!

Watchdog Exclusive: Fi-core member and SAG Award nominee, Jon Voight will NOT be invited to 11th Annual SAG Awards!

The SAG Watchdog has learned that Fi-core member John Voight, who has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for his role as Eddie in “Mitch Albom’s “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” will not be invited to the “by invitation only” SAG awards because he has resigned from the Screen Actors Guild.

Oscar winner Voight’s problems with the guild began back in June of 2003 when he was confronted by dozens of union picketers for shooting a non-union production “A Deadly Course.”

At the time, SAG spokeswoman Ilyanne Kichaven stated “”We find that this is a most egregious violation of the ban against non-union work. This action is a part of our continuing organizing and contract enforcement programs.”

It was after the picketing of the non-union movie that Mr. Voight, ignoring the entreaty of some high profile SAG members, chose to resign from the union and go financial core: In affect becoming a dues paying non-member!

It is yet to be seen how the revelation of Mr. Voight’s financial-core status will affect his chances of winning a SAG award. But since most loyal SAG members see financial Core as a definite nail in the coffin of unionism, it is the Ol’ Watchdog’s considered opinion that Mr. Voight’s chances of winning a SAG award are about as good as him being, ah, one of “The Five People You Will Meet at the SAG Awards!

SNAG! Actor talks stall over DVD money *money

Feature film production could screech to a halt in as little as three weeks if Hollywood’s actors and industry negotiators do not reach a new contract by the end of the month, industry sources said Monday.

Contract talks broke down Sunday after SAG/AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced that they were not ready to make a deal — and would recess indefinitely to plot their next moves. Sources said significant progress was made, but the talks stalled over two final demands by the actors, one being higher residuals from DVDs. The studios have made it clear that they are willing to risk a strike to preserve the current DVD formula.

A news blackout remains in effect regarding the negotiations, and the sources would not discuss the actors’ other demand that has hindered the talks.

The current agreement covering SAG’s 122,000 members and AFTRA’s 80,000 members does not expire until June 30, but studios and producers will be reluctant to greenlight projects that would be in production or ready to go after the deadline. That leaves perhaps two or three weeks to decide whether to risk months of preproduction when there is a chance the actors will be on strike in the summer.

“Film companies all over town are deciding right now whether to go ahead with films,” one source said. “To start in July, you need to know now. And unless there’s a contract by the end of January, you’re not going to start a film.”

Added Jack Kyser, chief economist of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp.: “If you were the prudent studio, I think you’d start to think about ramping up production to get some product in the can in case things go awry. Obviously this means that you can’t do a huge production, but some smaller movies may get done. For everyone else in the industry (including the other unions) who’ve signed contracts, this is probably a splash of cold water in the face.”

Television production would not be immediately affected, though it could be by late spring as the networks start to plot out their new fall schedules. Ordering up more reality TV is one of the most obvious moves in such a situation, insiders say.

A similar situation played out in 2001, when the likelihood of a strike by SAG and/or the WGA drove studios to stockpile production. Those strike fears never materialized but led to months of production inactivity or what was known as a “de facto strike.”

With the news blackout in effect, it has been difficult to gauge the degree to which SAG/AFTRA’s negotiation team has been afflicted by SAG’s internal political friction.

The actors’ negotiating team includes several influential members of the Membership First party, which opposes the policies of SAG president Melissa Gilbert and, above all, chief negotiator and national executive director/CEO Bob Pisano. Membership First has advocated a harder line on the DVD-residual issue, though it was a stated goal of the entire negotiating team regardless of political affiliation.

SAG also had hoped to get increased health-care contributions and better terms for background actors.

The problem is that AMPTP officials, led by president and chief negotiator J. Nicholas Counter, have steadfastly refused to alter the 20-year-old home video residual formula for any unions. WGA demanded those gains but ultimately had to give up and accept higher health contributions instead. DGA likewise was stonewalled on the residuals issue, leading them to declare that it was a fight not worth waging at that time.

Those talks established what appeared to be a classic case of “pattern bargaining,” where Hollywood’s major unions are offered the same broad terms. The actors’ unions do not subscribe to this theory because their members’ interests do not necessarily overlap with those of writers and directors.

These talks originally opened a year ago, but the AMPTP offered a one-year extension, with some gains, to avoid production disruptions as it prepared for major contract talks with WGA, AFTRA and DGA.

The SAG/AFTRA negotiations opened Dec. 6 and went for about 10 days before breaking for the holidays. Negotiators have been meeting at the AMPTP’s Encino headquarters since Wednesday, hoping to conclude the last major Hollywood union contract of this three-year cycle.

Have you ever noticed that in the trades, for the most part, whatever happens in situations like this is the fault of actors “…but the talks stalled over two final demands by the actors…!”

Hey, how about “…but the talks stalled because of the Intransigence of the studios…!” Yeah, right! Who buys all those ads? *money*

Anyho’ a big *up to our negotiators for Standing up for our right to a fair share of the *moneyBOOMING MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR DVD MARKET!

Estimates are that if studios didn’t take 80 percent off the top of Video/DVD revenue, SAG members would pocket and extra *money2 BILLION DOLLARS *money in the next three years. Hey, with that kind of dough, we could buy our own ads in the trades and then maybe they would give us a fair shake!

Our SAG/AFTRA negotiators stood up to the AMPTP! Read further and you’ll understand why!

Beyond the fact that the studios most likely wanted to implement “pattern bargaining” that would include ROLLBACKS allowing networks “to withhold residuals on certain early reruns of new television series in a bid to help the shows succeed, ” they, also, refused to budge on any increases for actors in their *moneyMULTI-BILLION DOLLAR DVD Cash Cow! (Last year, 16.1 Billion in sales alone and that don’t include their kickback and stock deals)

Well, we all want shows to succeed, but I hardly see how denying us our fair share on early reruns is going to help new shows succeed. What? After a few new shows they would revert to reruns. Hey! Now there is a surefire way to success!

Huh? Oh, I see, you want to run that show twice in the same week to build viewer ship! And, and, you want ME to give up my $695! And, and, if the show is a huge success, I get my $695 THEN? Hmmm?

Hey, guys I got a great business opportunity for you. You put up a million, and if my idea is a success, whoopee, I’ll give you back your million. Huh? You, you want to know what’s in it for you? Ah, GOOD QUESTION!

It seems that every time actors agree to help, they get shafted! Hey, guys you gotta give us a break to help get cable started! We did! And everyone knows the rest! Instead of giving us a REWARD for helping them out, they continue to stonewall us in our attempts to get a fair shake on cable.

And then of course back in 1985, we did them another favor concerning Video, allowing them to withhold EIGHTY PERCENT of revenue to cover manufacturing and distribution cost! Well, not only are videos a lot cheaper to manufacture today, but DVD’s are A HELL OF A LOT CHEAPER to manufacture!

So, here we are TWENTY YEARS later getting residuals based on an outdated and unfair Video/DVD formula, and once again instead of REWARDING us for giving them a break, they are playing hardball to protect their bottom line.

Well, actors have a bottom line too. PAYING OUR RENT AND FEEDING OUR FAMILIES.

How about this? We’ll take even less on those expensive to produce video cassettes and they give us an INCREASE ON DVDS!

Now if you think DVDs are NO BIG DEAL, check out the following figures from TV shows on DVD.com they are mind-boggling over 800 RELEASES since last January! And remember many of these releases include several seasons of TV series shows! We are talking thousands and thousands of shows! Shows in which they get to lob 80 percent off the top before letting us share in the 20 percent that remains.

There’s been a lot of talk about stockpiling if we don’t settle these negotiations soon!

SO WHAT ABOUT THE STOCKPILING THEY’LL BE DOING ON TV SHOWS TO DVDS DURING THE NEXT THREE YEARS WHILE THEY CONTINUE WITH THEIR EIGHTY PERCENT WINDFFALL.

So, they had 800 TV to DVD releases last year, up 15% from the prior year, and conservatively speaking, they probably do at least another 2500 in the next three years, all of which they’ll want to grandfather, keeping all future sales of these DVDs under the same paltry residual formula! And of course, we haven’t even factored in all the movies to DVD. Oh, and lets not forget one of their reasons for NO INCREASE in DVD is because those movies are SOOOO expensive to produce. Oh, and how much are they spending to produce all the TV to DVD shows they have released and WILL BE RELEASING IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS!

If this is not reason enough to draw a line in the sand, I don’t know what is.
