Dear Mr. Neal Pattison,
I am writing to you because there is an extraordinary event that will be taking place at 10am this Friday March 30 in Everett, Washington.

Integrity Voting Systems (IVS, 7720 Hardeson Rd, Everett, WA 98203. Phone 800-487-1556) will be counting the ballots sent in by up to 190,000 film and television actors nationwide. The ballot gives actors a choice between their unions staying separate or merging as one new union based in Delaware.

The two unions involved in the proposed merger are the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). Those promoting the merger are being flown at union expense to Everett to witness the vote count. Those opposed to the merger who would like to witness the vote count have had the cost of their airfare denied.

We actors think it is very important that both sides should witness the vote counting in person. As those against the merger can’t afford the airfare to be there, we are requesting that your newspaper, the Everett Daily Herald, ask permission from IVS to attend the vote count on Friday. Representatives from your newspaper would make excellent and impartial witnesses.

Attending the vote count would also make a good news story for your newspaper as the final result of the vote has far-reaching consequences nationwide. We would appreciate that you consider asking permission to attend this important event on Friday.
