Here is the complete text of the new contract, SAG members will be voting on in referendum in the next couple of weeks. Read it very closely, and then read it again. Everytime you do, you'll get a clearer picture how our guild, and you are getting screwed out of residuals, protections and a whole lot more.
Look, this should already be up on the SAG website. My feeling is that those who are now running our guild don’t want you to see the actual contract but would rather you only get their interpretation of it.
How about that part on “New Media pay platforms” of productions under $25,000 dollars a minute, employers pay no residuals.
Yep! That means they could make a movie with the production and cast values of the much acclaimed “Junebug” (which cost $one million dollars) for the internet, play it one day there, and then release it in other venues, theaters, cable, etc. and the producer would never have to pay residuals for use on the internet, no matter how in demand it may come. (Actually a producer could spend just about two and a half million on a 105 minute movie and never have to pay internet residuals.)
Can you say "bye-bye residuals, bye-bye careers?"
