Occasionally, the Ol’ Dog picks a member of the month—and usually the member picked demonstrates a display of courage.
In this month’s case, our member of the Month, demonstrates exceptional courage, by speaking out against an employer, putting her unionist ideals above her own personal career.
Look, it is not only easy but also beneficial to ones career to side with employers in disputes between the union and employers.
When someone like Sally Field comes forward indicating that members do not have the resolve to stand up to employers during collective bargaining negotiations, it ain’t gonna hurt her career, but rather benefit it.
By the same token, when Richard Masur and the New York USAN controlled board publicly releases a resolution siding with employers stating that SAG’s negotiation goals are unattainable; it can’t hurt their careers, either.
On the other hand when an actress stands up to her employer, she puts her own career and bank account in jeopardy.
Such is the case of SAG board member Ms. Anne Marie Johnson who went public with the following statement which was posted on the WGA website.
Also, congratulations to Anne Marie, who after having her name put up for nomination by former Ist VP, Kent McCord, was elected as SAG’s new First Vice President.
