So, boys and girls if you haven’t received the thrilling James Cromwell call telling you to vote yes on the Exhibit A Agreement, we have for your listening pleasure a copy of that phone call. For those of you who are puzzled why former SAG board member and acclaimed actor James Cromwell would support an agreement, that will clearly undermine SAG’s negotiations--doing great harm to his fellow actors, by setting in place formulas in new media, that will negatively impact actors ability to make a living for decades to come, my only response is, your guess is as good as mine. Well anyway, here’s my guess. Mr. Cromwell is in favor of one world union, an agenda he tried to accomplish at SAG with little success. (He was part of the leadership that spent millions of our dues dollars to try to shove CONsolidation down our throats--and failed.) So, how is his support of this lousy contract gonna help his first step to merger, then on to one world union? Well, SAG members do not want to combine with AFTRA for various reasons, primarily because of their belief that the Screen Actors Guild with its great tradition of representing actors, is, indeed, the actors union, while AFTRA, on the other hand, is a hodpodge performers union including broadcasters, weathermen, Disc Jockeys, and a few soap actors. You might say, most actors feel that for their purposes, SAG is the superior union, the one best suited to represent them. Well, it is the Ol’ Dog’s humble opinion that Mr. Cromwell feels that by cutting SAG down by a couple of notches, members will be more likely to want to merge with AFTRA, especially as more and more of their contracts go over there. Yes, it will hurt actors, but then, Mr. Cromwell seems more intent on his One World Union, than any damages his support of AFTRA’s Rollback Express Agreement may inflict on his fellow SAG members. Okay, and now another worldwide exclusive, and you know what we say at the Watchdog; One World Wide Exclusive, or no exclusive at all.
