Well, the Department of Labor's rerun of the AFTRA election will be over Monday Morning, so if you want your vote to count, best get the ballot out now.
Of course, a lot of actors that are dual card holders never vote in the AFTRA election because they figure it doesn’t affect them. And by not voting, they could be costing themselves a lot of money lost through inferior minimums and residual giveaways, due to AFTRA’s recent take-over of basic cable shows traditionally under SAG’s jurisdiction. AFTRA now has all but one half hour show, and nine of the hour shows.
I have made no secret that I support the AFTRA Artist slate. The reason will be apparent after you read the following two flyers from the two opposing groups of candidates.
First the AFTRA Artist Slate’s Flyer:
It’s pretty straight forward: The flyer states the groups goals, and lists their names. There is no attempt to demonize the candidates from the other slate.
Now compare it with the AFTRA Leadership Team.
The flyer states no goals, but rather is nothing more than a device to smear the other slate with innuendo and outright lies.
For one thing they accuse the AFTRA Artists slate group of "avowed anti-AFTRA politicos", because of WHAT? They don’t want AFTRA or SAG actors to work under inferior contracts that take money out of all actors’ pockets. Or are they extreme, because they want AFTRA to stop undercutting actors contracts--and start organizing lifetime cable shows and news networks like CNN, Fox News and CNBC? (MSNBC parent union NBC’s correspondents decertified from AFTRA.) Or perhaps they are extreme because they want only member-approved dues increases, Transparency, were members can actually have access to the contracts they work under, and reduced health premiums.
Look, I could go on but, better yet, I thought I’d run both flyers through the Ol’ Debunkulator.
First, I ran the AFTRA Artist Flyer through the Debunkulator and got this read out.
Then, I ran the AFTRA Leadership Teams flyer through the Debunkulator. After spitting it out several times, it finally gave me this read out.
Here is that factual rewrite.
