At tonight's Hollywood Board Meeting, SAG Ralph Morgan Award Winner Kent McCord has been re-elected as First VP. Mr. McCord who was challenged by board supporters of Seymour Cassel won fairly easily by more than a two to one margin.
Although McCord and Cassel both are strong advocates of taking a strong stance in dealings with AFTRA, the ATA, and the AMPTP, Seymour’s supporters felt because of his strong showing in the recent Presidential race, against the eventual winner incumbent President Alan Rosenberg, and because he was the highest vote getter for the Hollywood board, that he had earned the First VP position.
In what can only be described as another irony of SAG Politics, board member and Alan Rosenberg supporter, Anne-Marie Johnson, who lost to McCord in a bitter battle for the First VP seat last time, made an impassioned speech appealing to the board to reelect Mr. McCord.
Now that all the players are in place, one can only hope that President Rosenberg, First VP McCord, and Hollywood favorite Seymour Cassel can combine forces to help lead our membership to a place where they are no longer being screwed by the ATA’s onerous GSA’s and packaging, the AMPTP which threatens to take away their residuals, and AFTRA’s unscrupulous leadership which is low-balling actors contracts.
Speaking of AFTRA’s leadership, stay tuned for an AFTRA leader’s “tell all” on how and why their reps are giving away actors residuals. It’s a sellout that is as revealing as it is chilling.
