The following “AFTRA First/Actor's Last” ad will appear in tomorrows Variety Magazine. The ad of AFTRA propaganda, based on disinformation, is signed by a group of AFTRA members who are either being duped, or if they know the truth, are being duplicitous.
They include mostly voiceover, broadcaster, and commercial actors along with several Restore Respect "go-along to get-along" members who where voted out of a SAG leadership position because of their tendency to, ah, well, "go-along to get-along."
The Ol’ Dog has labeled them the AFTRA First/Actors Last group. Because any members, either AFTRA or SAG, who encourage and standup for AFTRA Contracts that undercut SAG actor minimums, and or, take away their residuals certainly put AFTRA First, and most certainly don’t care about actors harmed by AFTRA’s inferior Basic Cable Contracts.
As far as this ad goes, I believe it will wilt beneath the outrage of SAG Actors, when the Screen Actors Magazine comes out next week, and members see in detail how AFTRA and its "AFTRA First/Actors’Last" contingent has conspired to undermine our great guilds efforts to get SAG members the best possible contracts, and that AFTRA's Leadership has done it by selling out actors to the lowest bidder.
I think that we all remember how hundreds of members took to the pavement when Employers tried to take away “Class A” spots. I think we could see the same thing when actors realize how AFTRA is stabbing them in the back by taking away their residuals. Only in this case, I doubt if they will get as far as Hollywood Boulevard, but instead will make their feelings known at 5757 Wilshire.
