Saying “Good-bye" to an Old Friend.

.: .
Date: Saturday 6/13/2009

I'm sitting here waiting to attend the funeral services of my old friend Del Monroe who passed away a few days ago after a short illness. He was 73 years old.

I had been waiting to see his obituary in one of the trade papers or the LA Times, but as of yet, have not seen one.

Now, I usually don’t do this sort of thing here on the Watchdog, but because of my fondness of Del, and because I’m sure he has a lot of friends who have not heard about his passing, I thought it might be a good idea.

Most fans remember Del for his running role as Seaman Kowalski in Irwin Allen’s movie “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and the subsequent TV series of the same title.

Beyond our personal friendship, I remember Del from the series and, especially, from the “Walking Tall” sequence in which he played a bad guy who fought Joe Don Baker at the pool table in a small rural bar. The thing about Del is that he played mostly bad guys, and the truth is there wasn’t a sweeter guy in the world.

Well, I guess it’s time to dust off my “Once a year” suit and go say goodbye to my old friend.
