When the ATA/NATR referendum was rejected by the membership, The current leaderships’ go-to-guy, The Hollywood Reporter’s Peter Kiefer, began an April 26, 2002 article with “nonworking actors without an agent were the driving force in last week’s vote that rejected the Screen Actors Guild’s tentative franchise agreement with the Association of Talent Agents.”
The article continued with a Restore Respect member exclaiming “This vote is absolutely disgusting!”
When Consolidation tanked, the go-to-guy dutifully reported in a July 31, 2003 article “Once again, nonworking actors were in the referendums driver seat---this time rejecting the SAG-AFTRA consolidation.”
Well, now that Melissa has won one, will she give credit where credit is due? How about this from the go-to-guy: “It’s happened a third time, folks, “nonworking actors without an agent were the driving force in the drivers seat. This time electing Melissa Gilbert President of the Guild. A Hollywood member of the Restore Respect Slate upon hearing that Melissa had been reelected because of non-working actors was quoted as saying ‘This is absolutely wonderful!’
Later, when the RR slate member learned of his loss along with the sweep of the Hollywood Board by the Membership First Team, he exclaimed ‘This is absolutely disgusting!’”
