Upon learning of her re-election, Gilbert stated: "It is an honor and a thrill to be re-elected. I said at the beginning of this campaign that I was not finished and clearly the members agree. There is so much ahead of us and so much right upon us, I am eager and excited to continue the work the members have elected me to do.
"We are in the middle of a negotiation for the commercials contract and are about
to begin the process for TV/Theatrical not to mention the work that must be done to
bring Consolidation back to the members in a form that even more of them will
support. I felt it was vital that the members have a continuity of leadership and I am
so pleased and humbled to see they feel the same way."
Upon hearing the news of his election, James Cromwell stated: "I consider it a great honor to have been elected to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of Screen Actors Guild and to be given another opportunity to complete the work we began in 1937, the consolidation and affiliation of SAG and AFTRA. I am committed to making this the first step toward what I hope will one day be a single union, worldwide. representing all the crafts involved in the creation of entertainment, so that we can negotiate with the multi-national corporations that employ us from a position of unity and strength.* I hope as well to be able to revisit the ATA Agreement and to re-establish a fair and workable relationship with the agents that represent us.
"I believe that one of the most destructive consequences of the factional infighting
over these issues has been the disillusionment and frustration many members have expressed toward the union's seeming inability to govern equitably and effectively. We need to be able to communicate clearly and concisely with the membership, so that never again will any member succumb to the misguided logic, "If you don't know, vote 'no'." To that end, I will seek to open up our deliberations so that every member will have the opportunity to understand what is at stake and how our decisions affect their ability to pursue their careers and make a living in this industry.
"I believe it is the responsibility of the Union to serve every member, regardless of
their status, their income or their craft. I look forward to being of service."
