SAG factionalism

Letter to the Editor

By TERRENCE BEASOR

To the Editor:

In a letter to the editor published Sept. 10, SAG and AFTRA member Jerry Gelb made a number of misrepresentations that I feel must be addressed.
He wrote, “Our house has been made even stronger with the bills passed, deficit lowered and residual tracking and delivery improved.”

What bills have been passed? The SAG deficit was lowered when Kent McCord challenged SAG President Melissa Gilbert and NED Bob Pisano to prove the $6 million dollar deficit they claimed existed. The deficit was magically lowered to $1.6 million.
Residual tracking and delivery has not improved because SAG does not have a monitoring system in place to track residuals.

He ends his letter with: “There you will find your pensions safe, your voting rights intact and your contracts strengthened.” Our pensions have always been safe because they are insured by the federal government. Our voting rights are intact because we refused to accept the merger with AFTRA. We have yet to see if our contracts are strengthened.

The trouble with Mr. Gelb, Melissa Gilbert, Bob Pisano and the other Restore Respect candidates is that they are wolves inside of the house trying to blow the walls out.
