Branch Members could end up the kindling wood to fuel the fires of Qualified Voting !!

.: .
Date: Wednesday 8/27/2003

Melissa Gilbert, James Cromwell and their Restore Respect Slate champion Qualified Voting and Consolidation. Both of which are indelibly intertwined!. (See the Smoking Gun article)

Now, just who would Qualified Voting effect? Well, most certainly it would disenfranchise the rank and file members, many of whom are out their hustling during the day trying to land an agent or a job, while toiling in the evening, in so-called straight jobs, to pay the bills.

However, contrary to what a lot of members may think, it is not just the stereotypical “Hollywood” actor who would be excluded from the voting process under Qualified Voting. BRANCH MEMBERS and VARIOUS MINORITY COMMUNITIES would also be excluded from the democratic process.

By using income as the determining factor on who gets to vote, FORTY EIGHT PERCENT of Arizona’s members would be ineligible, as would FORTY SIX PERCENT of the members in Detroit, THIRTY EIGHT percent in Chicago--and Qualified voting would take a big bite out of The Big Apples members right to vote! More than ONE THIRD OF NEW YORK’S MEMBERSHIP WOULD BE DENIED A VOICE IN THEIR UNION.

Money would not be the only determining factor! Under Qualified Voting, you lose your agent. You could lose your vote. And while you are busting your buns to make it in this wonderful, crazy business-- you hit a dry spell (Haven’t We All!) you could be hit by Qualified Voting.

And, while the board determined that you hadn’t reached their REASONABLE CRITERIA to vote--- Big Time Athletes, Corporate Executive Spokespersons and “Real” people on the street would be filling in their ballots!

Hey, if you’d really like to check this out further click this link Qualified Voting for a concise , in depth, pragmatic treatise on Qualified Voting--and all of its undesirable ramifications.
