A Terrifying Tidbit from the Hollywood Reporter !!

.: .
Date: Friday 8/22/2003

Now this is scary! Peter Keifer the current administrations go-to media guy, reports "In fact, there has been speculation within the two guilds that they might purse an INDEFINITE EXTENSION of the TV/THEATRICAL CONTRACT to allow time for another crack at consolidating." (Hollywood Reporter 8/15-16/03)

Now, let's see, in the last annual report of SAG TV/Theatrical earnings for a single year, the sum amounted to just over One Billion dollars! (Earnings for 2001)

Ah, okay, say for the first year of the upcoming TV/Theatrical negotiations, we would have achieved a modest three percent increase at the bargaining table. An increase which we would not achieve, by cracky, because, well, the current Restore Respect Majority on the board wants to "Take another crack at Consolidation!"

Any one care to speculate how much such an INDEFINITE EXTENSION of say six months or a year would take out of the memberships collective pockets? Although the exact numbers might be hard to pin down, you can be sure that comparatively speaking the millions spent on the recent failed consolidation attempt would be small potatoe$.

Perhaps the membership should take a "crack" at getting new leadership before those currently in power break the proverbial SAG piggy bank.
